About Jack M. Gregor, M.S.
Hi there, I’m Jack. Nutrition, food, physical activity, and lifestyle changes are my passion. My focus as a integrative health practitioner is on prevention—getting things into harmony before they get too out of balance and start a cycle of disease. I believe making dietary and lifestyle changes can promote optimal health, boost immune function, and help prevent chronic disease. Over the years I've found major hurdles can be overcome with a combination of learning/education, and a willingness to try something different.
I’m humble, transparent, and am regarded as a trusted listener. I like to think my down-to-earth style and sense of humor make me approachable and easy to talk to. I believe in moderation and sustainability. With my empathetic, patient-centered approach, clients and I work together to set achievable goals that optimize their nutrition and lifestyle. I especially enjoy helping clients discover stress reduction techniques and solutions.
If you're looking for a holier-than-thou nutrition professional who lives the "cleanest" and always has--that's not me. I'm a real person who understands struggle. I wouldn't be in this field if I hadn't been obese for a long time, wrestling with hauling around the weight of what amounted to an armchair of fat, every day.

My education:
In summer 2019 I completed a Masters of Science in Nutrition and Integrative Health, with a concentration in Human Clinical Nutrition, which required an intensive 7-month clinical nutrition internship working directly with clients in in-person and online consultations. My university also required us to take hands-on cooking labs, where I honed my culinary skills so that I may teach others. I earned my degree at Maryland University of Integrative Health (MUIH), an accredited school in Laurel, MD. I began my graduate study in 2015 and at the same time, worked in specialty food retail, grocery, and restaurants, gaining valuable experience in the food industry. Prior to graduate school, I worked in education as the general manager of a large, private music school location for over 6 years, and managed data for a decade prior for nonprofits and as a contractor for the U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services.

My journey:
In my mid-30s I allowed myself to become obese as a general manager living a high-stress, long-distance commuting lifestyle. Things got such that I didn't recognize myself in photographs anymore. In 2011, I decided to undertake several major lifestyle improvements, taking things small steps at a time. I coached myself out of an obese state by adjusting my diet and incorporating frequent physical activity. It took time and commitment, but I lost over 60 pounds and have kept it off for years. I felt the call to pursue a Master’s degree in nutrition so that I could maintain my health and to help others similarly take control of their wellness outcomes.
I'm often told I look younger than I am, which is a compliment, a blessing, and sometimes a curse. I'm now in my mid-40s and keep myself young at heart with hobbies like kayaking, cooking, beachcombing including fossil-collecting, photography, bird-watching, music, and (of course!) enjoying the delicious fare at North Beach's restaurants. A Northern Virginia native, I always felt most comfortable in small towns and by the water, so I moved to the Chesapeake Bay in my early 40s.
